- Abstract
Introduction: First Contact Access is one of the essential attributes of Primary Health Care (PHC) and plays a key role in health promotion, disease prevention, treatment of acute conditions and management of chronic conditions. Objectives: This article explores the importance of first-contact access to PHC, highlighting its benefits for individuals and for the Unified Health System (SUS). Method: This is a narrative, bibliographical and nonsystematic literature review that sought to address the main strategies to improve First Contact Access. Results: The results point to the expansion of opening hours, the implementation of triage systems, the use of technologies, the strengthening of multidisciplinary teams, health education strategies and scheduling programs. Final Considerations: These strategies are key elements for building a more efficient, accessible and user-centered health system. By continuing to invest in these efforts, SUS will be able to achieve a more robust PHC and contribute to promoting the health and well-being of the entire population.
