- Abstract
To identify the most prevalent risk factors for suicide among people undergoing hemodialysis. This is a descriptive and exploratory study, with a quantitative nature. In preparing this study, we sought to assess whether patients who use hemodialysis with therapy are at risk for suicide. Data were collected using validated instruments applied to patients in a nephrology clinic. During the interviews, it was observed that most patients are at intermediate risk for suicide, who often find themselves discredited with the treatment and seek a way to escape the reality they experience. Of the patients at serious risk, 50% have a suicidal plan in mind, which generates a series of discomforts for the continuation of the treatment. These patients need a multidisciplinary and complex care, where mental health should be a priority factor from the patient's admission and perpetuate throughout the treatment.
