- Title
České cukrovarnictví a lihovarnictví v roce 2008.
- Abstract
During the 2008/09 campaign sugar beet was cultivated on an area of 50,000 ha (29% less then in 2004/95). With the withdrawal of Eastern Sugar, Czech Republic has lost a quota amounting to 102000 t. It is certainly positive that in the ongoing sugar reform the sugar beet growers have not given up their supply rights. In fact there has even been no deCSease in the production quotas on the side of currently active sugar beet companies. On the contrary, the sugar processors and growers have purchased on total of 20 070 t of additional quota. The Czech Republic has thus given the EU a clear sign that the sugar beet industry has finished its restructuralization and is ready to accept the new postreform conditions. Throughout the 2008/09 campaign, seven sugar factories of five distinct companies were active with average production capacity of 5400 tonnes per day of sugar beet. A total of 2.56 million tonnes of beet was used to produce 414 tonnes of sugar. The Union of Distillers of the Czech Republic is an association of all Czech ethanol producers and it is a member of the European Union of Ethanol Producers (UEPA). Its goal is to defend the interests of the Czech distilleries. Contrary to the practice in neighbouring states, the production, distribution and enrichment of fuels by bioethanol is not subsidized in any way. As a result bioethanol is imported into the Czech Republic mainly from Brazil and Pakistan where the production costs are lower. The import of bioethanol to Czech Republic has inCSeased by more than 650%.
