- Abstract
The article discusses the genetic aberrations that occur in relation to the tumorigenesis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). It is said that GIST is associated to the mutations of the KIT or PDGFRA gene. The aberrant versions of this type of gene mutation are said to be critical because they are the targets of therapy with imatinib and other agents. Also, this may lead to differential drug sensitivity and may guide selection of tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
