- Abstract
Two recent volumes, "Rediscovering Lost Landscapes: Topographical Art in North-West Italy, 1800–1920" and "Revisiting Italy: British Women Travel Writers and the Risorgimento (1844–61)," contribute to the scholarly understanding of the British fascination with Italy in the 19th century. The books explore the multidimensional interactions between British travelers and the Italian landscape, including politics, geography, and art. "Rediscovering Lost Landscapes" focuses on topographical art and its use in understanding social dynamics, historical land use, and landscape change. "Revisiting Italy" examines the role of British women travel writers in negotiating complex personal, spiritual, historical, and nationalistic subjects related to the Italian political situation. These volumes provide rich and visually appealing additions to the existing body of work on this topic.
