- Abstract
Banana anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum musae, is one of the major prominent diseases causing losses in mature and immature fruit. Since long synthetic fungicides were used to control this disease effectively, in the long run, the fruits treated with fungicides started losing their commercial value in the market. Hence, many experiments were conducted for alternative strategies to replace synthetic chemicals and fungicides. The alternative methods were mainly the use of plant-based products for controlling the disease incidence (DI) as these products are environmentally friendly and not hazardous to non-target organisms. Most DIs can also be managed with improvements in the on-farm constraints because post-harvest control, handling, storing, and transporting are still developing in banana fruits. The presented review is aimed to provide comprehensive details of banana anthracnose disease management such as pre-storage treatments such as precooling, chemical, and biological treatment for controlling the pathogen, modified atmospheric packaging, use of plant extract, antioxidants, irradiation, and coating for enhancement of shelf life.
