- Abstract
Maria Gassó Miracle's volume fills in all the missing details about Temminck's life and career, but it also looks at how the Linnaean system of nomenclature was developed into what we know as systematics today. As other naturalists published in newly emerging journals, Temminck's diligent, slow approach was eventually superseded and he failed to use Linnaean names for many new species, which others renamed subsequently, so that Temminck lost credit for these discoveries. Although I knew of Temminck's golden cat, I Catopuma temminckii i , and Temminck's tragopan, I Tragopan temminckii i , I knew nothing about Temminck.
