- Title
Mass spectrometry: Tracking molecular mobility.
- Authors
Brodbelt, Jennifer S.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study that reports a strategy to explore molecular motion within multi-protonated complexes formed between oligolysine peptides and 18-crown-6 molecules through an exploitation of hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange reactions. The study used electrospray ionization for the examination of multicomponent complexes that comprise the oligolysine peptide. The reported strategy offers compelling evidence that the extensive exchange of all labile hydrogens for deuteriums within peptide/crown ether complexes is assisted by extensive shuttling of the mobile crown ethers.
