Zusammenfassung Erkrankungen der Nieren entwickeln sich in der Regel über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Jahren, bevor das Nierenparenchym so weit geschädigt ist, dass eine lebenslange Dialyse erforderlich wird. Um einen solchen Funktionsverlust der Nieren zu vermeiden, ist es wichtig, Nierenerkrankungen möglichst frühzeitig zu erkennen, um rechtzeitig therapeutische Maßnahmen einleiten zu können. In der Radiologie stehen für ihre Diagnostik verschiedene invasive und nichtinvasive Modalitäten zu Verfügung. Insbesondere die nichtinvasiven Methoden CT und MRT haben in den letzten Jahren bedeutende technische Fortschritte erfahren. Beide Verfahren bieten heute die Möglichkeit, bei Nierenerkrankungen in einer einzigen Untersuchung das Nierenparenchym sowie die arteriellen und venösen Gefäße darzustellen. In diesem Beitrag werden die wichtigsten vaskulären und parenchymatösen Erkrankungen der Niere und ihre radiologischen Charakteristika mit Fokus auf der CT- und MRT-Bildgebung vorgestellt.
