- Abstract
City where poets live certainly has an impact on the formation of their cultural treasures. Likewise, it can be said that poets contributed to the civilization of those cities through poetry. The city of Najaf, located one hundred and fifty kilometers south of Baghdad and seventy kilometers southeast of Karbala, is the city of Hz. It gained importance after the rumor that Ali was buried here spread and turned into a settlement center in the following years. Located on a high plateau and on the edge of the desert, the city has become a prosperous structure since the ninth century and has become a place considered sacred by the poets. Hz. Because Ali was buried here, Hz. The city of Najaf, which gained depth with the poems about Ali, was frequently referenced by the poets of classical Turkish literature. In this study, how and for what reasons the city of Najaf was discussed in classical Turkish literature was revealed.
