- Abstract
The article talks about realism and magic in the representation of the prostitute in times of dictatorships in Brazil and Cuba. It mentions that novelists Jorge Amado and Daína Chaviano coincide in denounce the abuse of totalitarian regimes whose policies marginalize the protagonists and confine them to sex work to survive. It mentions prostitution has been seen as a sign of failure of government policies and has been used to configure a marginal feminine identity.
