- Abstract
In the recommendation to increase the competitiveness of Croatia, the Clusters Policy in Croatia highlights the objectives, the uniformity of regional development, human resource development, with the intent to keep the population in a particular area with opening perspective for employment, strengthen competitiveness and economic restructuring on the basis of facilitating access to technologies, information resources, financing and market information. Some measures are applied according to the needs of the individual clusters, which carries the characteristics of the region in which has been or will occur. Already present concentration of certain activities in a given region is a consequence of natural resources and / or industrial capability. It is precisely to the specific circumstances of developing the competitiveness of specific region. This paper presents one way of determining the concentration of key industry in a particular region, based on generally accepted Porter initial narrow definition of regional clusters, which was later extended, that the regional cluster can be defined as a geographical concentration of related independent companies. In this paper, the key is to determine the concentration of industrial activities using the location quotient in the NUTS II region of Pannonian Croatia and NUTS III regions Brod-Posavina and Pozega-Slavonia County. Determining the concentration of industrial activity, shown by coefficient, represents the first stage within all measures to be applied in order to more actively link economic development actors in the region.
