- Abstract
The study's objective is determinate the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in the personnel who works at the School of Medicine of the University of Cuenca, in 2015. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with the participation of 82 people (45 teachers, 22 employees, 15 workers). The base data were collected through interviews and direct observation. The results were analyzed in the program Excel 2010. The result showed that 17.1% of the population had MS according to ATP III criteria and 28.0% according to IDF criteria. The prevalence found was lower than that presented in other studies. The sedentariness, the hypertriglyceridemia and the smoking habit stand out as risk factors. It is necessary to promote changes in lifestyle.
