Non-invasive Tests of Fibrosis: Does One Size Fit All?
- Authors

- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of early detection of fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the use of non-invasive tests (NITs) to assess the risk of liver disease without the need for a liver biopsy. The article highlights the potential limitations of NITs, which were mostly developed and validated in populations of white ethnicity, and questions their effectiveness in other ethnic groups. The study mentioned in the article assessed the performance of NITs in Asian populations and found that blood-based NITs had poor diagnostic accuracy, while liver stiffness measurements (LSM) alone or in combination with other markers had high diagnostic accuracy. The article emphasizes the need for further research and the inclusion of diverse populations in the evaluation of NITs.
