- Abstract
A high-temperature-resistant composite coating was prepared based on silicate enamel with alumina as filler on martensitic stainless steel (MSS). The oxidation behavior of the composite coating at high temperature was studied. The results showed that the MSS substrate was oxidized at 650 °C, and a Cr2O3 film was formed on its surface. The weight gain of MSS after oxidation for 100 hours was 0.2 mg/cm². Applying an enamel coating on MSS reduced the oxidation weight gain greatly and improved the high-temperature oxidation resistance of the substrate by an order of magnitude. The composite coating prepared by adding alumina particles to enamel had improved high-temperature oxidation resistance due to the following mechanisms: the dissolved alumina in the form of aluminum-oxygen tetrahedron complements the silicon-oxygen network, and the undissolved alumina embedded in the network hinders the transport of O2- by increasing its transport distance.
