- Abstract
This article, titled "EP09.102: Prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of myxomatous degeneration of cardiac valves: a case series," discusses the diagnosis of myxomatous degeneration of cardiac valves (MDCV) through prenatal ultrasound. MDCV is a degenerative change in valves that can lead to thickening, prolapse, and rupture of tendon cords, causing valve closure insufficiency. The study retrospectively identified three cases of prenatal MDCV and compared their echocardiography features to pathological findings. The fetuses showed multiple valve anomalies, primarily affecting the mitral valve, followed by the tricuspid and aortic valves. The valvular lesions were characterized by thickened, loose, and lengthy leaflets, leaflet prolapse, systolic closure insufficiency, and moderate to severe regurgitation. The study concludes that the description and suggestive diagnosis of morphological abnormalities can be made based on these echocardiographic manifestations.
