- Title
Severe Water Shortages in Kufr 'Aqab: Adalah Petitions Israeli Supreme Court.
- Abstract
Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, has petitioned the Israeli Supreme Court on behalf of 204 residents of Kufr 'Aqab, a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem, over severe water shortages. The petition argues that the Israeli authorities' failure to provide a continuous and adequate water supply violates the residents' right to health, life, and bodily integrity. Kufr 'Aqab, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Jerusalem Municipality, does not receive water from the municipal supplier and instead relies on the Palestinian Water Authority, resulting in unreliable access to water. The petition highlights the residents' struggle to secure water for essential needs and the health risks associated with storing water in plastic containers. Adalah has called attention to Israel's systematic violation of Palestinians' fundamental rights and its failure to meet its obligations as an occupying power.
