- Abstract
This article presents criticism of the dramatic philosophy of the playwrights Thomas Richards and Jerzy Grotowski, particularly regarding their depiction of the significance and illusion of symbolism in language and religion. Grotowski's play "Apocalypsis cum figuris," is highlighted, pointing out the ways in which symbolic actions in Christianity are addressed and challenged. The playwrights' major theme of the immediacy of the Sacred-individual relationship is discussed in depth as well as its implications as seen through the actor-audience relationship.
