- Abstract
The article discusses dynamic structure and science bias. A sample of 170 secondary boys with high ability were classified as scientists and nonscientists on the basis of career aspirations. The groups have been successfully discriminated by measures of science interests, achievement motivation, and personality. Measures of dynamic traits, based on the Ergic theory, show the groups to be differentially motivated by the needs of assertiveness, fear, narcissicism, pugnacity, and sentiments towards the school and the family. Bias towards science is interpreted as instrumental in securing ergic gratifications.
