- Title
THE FAERIE QUEENE BOOK 1 AND GOLDING'S TRANSLATION OF META MORPHOSES.
- Authors
Taylor, Anthony Brian
- Abstract
The article focuses on the book "The Faerie Queene" and William Golding's translation of the book "Metamorphoses." The wide use Elizabethan writers made of Golding's translation of "Metamorphoses" has been befogged by the myth that the work was "Shakespeare's Ovid" with the implication that it was his small Latine that made writer William Shakespeare turn to Golding. It is now becoming increasingly clear that, whatever their competence in Latin, Shakespeare's contemporaries used Golding. The author shows writer Edmund Spenser's close familiarity with Golding.
