- Abstract
The health quality of lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa L.) is a fundamental attribute to guarantee the establishment of the culture, and to reduce the costs of the crop. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the health quality and the effect of heat and biological treatment in the control of plant pathogenic fungi associated with lettuce seeds cv. 'Simpson'. Health assessment was performed using the Blotter Test method. During the heat treatment, the seeds were submitted to different combinations of temperature (45, 48 and 50º C) and time (25 and 30 min.) in a bain-marie. Already, in carrying out the biological treatment, the seeds were microbiolozated with isolates of Bacillus methylotrophicus (MGSS B271, MGSS B272 and MGSS B273), B. amyloliquefaciens (MGSS B274) and B. thuringiensis (MGSS B275). After performing the treatments, the incidence, percentage of pathogen control and seed germination were evaluated. In the lettuce seed health test, Aspergillus fumigatus was the species with the highest incidence. The heat treatment at 48º C/ 25 min and 51 ºC/ 30 min, and the biological treatment with isolates MGSS B271, MGSS B273 and MGSS B275 were the most efficient in the control of plant pathogenic fungi associated with lettuce seeds.
