- Abstract
The results of ovarian cancer treatment in Poland are unsatisfactory and differ significantly from those in Western Europe. Problems resulting from poorly organized healthcare require systemic reorganization. On the other hand, improvement in the quality of treatment is mainly on the side of clinicians and should be based on European Society of Gynaecological Oncology quality indicators. They define, i.a: the minimum number of procedures performed in a center and the number of cytoreductions per surgeon. Due to the lack of a nationwide and publicly available register of operated patients with ovarian cancer, it is impossible to evaluate the units providing treatment. Therefore, as employees of the largest cancer center in Poland, we are obliged to systematically publish our data to patients and doctors. The report characterizes the patients undergoing surgical treatment, taking into account, i.a: stage of disease and the completeness of the cytoreductive surgery. Obtaining improvement of treatment effects, shortening the hospitalization time and reducing the number of complications is possible only through continuous and systematic evaluation of one's own work, and key element is the transparency of the presented data. We believe that the publication of this report will become an incentive to present the results of treatment of patients with ovarian cancer carried out in other centers and will herald the creation of a nationwide database.
