- Abstract
The object of this article is the feast of the Círio de Nazaré of Belém do Pará, a religious event that takes place on the second Sunday of October, attracting around two million devotees from various states of the country, as well as foreigners. Based on this event, the present work aims to understand the symbolism of the gastronomy of the Círio de Nazaré as a local identity. To achieve this aim, the applied methodology was ethnographic, with participant observation and bibliographic review. As a result, it was found that gastronomy is an intangible heritage of Círio, with the highlight being the duck in the tucupi and the maniçoba, and that the symbolism of these foods is constantly present in the religious feast, consolidating its meaning and identity by the consumption of the local inhabitants and visitors.
