- Abstract
However, we cannot be certain that all patients pescribed stimulants have ADHD or that all prescriptions represent appropriate or effective treatment. Women and older/middle-aged adults with ADHD are historically under-identified; stimulant prescription rates became less age- and sex-dependent during the surveillance period (see Figure 1). It would help to know trends in behavioral treatment utilization and non-stimulant prescriptions (four are FDA-approved for ADHD in either children, adults, or both-atomoxetine, extended release viloxazine, extended release guanfacine ER, clonidine).
