- Abstract
The rapid development of transportation and communication technologies, improvements in distribution of income, and expansion of the right to vacation to masses are growing the tourism market all over the world. The demands are diversifying and different sub-markets that address the increasingly varied understandings of vacation and accommodation are emerging in the growing tourism market. While economic package tours, mass tourism, and demands for accommodation that meets these trends are on the rise, individual pursuits that are completely outside of this, those of whom that do not prefer mass tourism have also increased. Home tourism meets the demands of travelers who primarily travel for cultural tourism; desire to rent a home, condominium, etc., within the historic fabric of the city they visit; prefer to shop around just as the locals of the destination; and often meet their own travel needs individually. In its most general definition, home tourism is short-term rental of homes to travelers who want to organize their own trips. The primary goal is to ensure that travelers feel as the locals in the cities where they will stay, even if for a few days. Home tourism and companies that have existed around the world since long years ago have also developed in Turkey in recent years and are already transformed into a separate sector. The number of people who rent out their homes either to or through these companies, which are noteworthy with their strong financial structures and widespread service networks, is increasing every other day. This study evaluates a research and its results on home tourism that has turned into an alternative way of accommodation and the global home rental companies that conduct this business at the world scale.
