- Authors
Rademaker, M.; Duffill, M. B.
- Abstract
This article discusses medical cases related to allergic contact dermatitis from toxicodendron succedaneum. More than 140 cases of phytodermatitis were reviewed. Although in most instances toxicodendron succedaneum was considered most likely responsible, definite identification was made in only 92 patients. Younger patients presented with facial dermatitis, reflecting contact while playing under trees. Allergy to anacardiacease shrubs and trees is well recognized. Toxicodendron succedaneum causes more than 2 million cases of allergic contact dermatitis in the U.S. every year.
