- Abstract
A report on contact allergy to alkanolamine borate (AAB) in metal working fluids is presented in this article. A dermatitis developed on the back of hands and lower arms in a machinists daily expose to metal working fluids. The patch tests with ingredients of both fluids yielded positive test reactions to AAB and to two other non-chemically related ingredients. AAB are used as corrosion inhibitors in metal working fluids. Aminoborate and boramine are concepts synonymous with AAB. The study showed that it is not possible to use one particular AAB of tracing contact allergy to any AAB and allergens in AAB are not identified.
