- Abstract
This article presents the results of a study on estimating the number of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) required by African households to reach continent-wide malaria coverage targets. The goal was to estimate how many ITNs were needed overall and how many are needed just to protect infants and pregnant women. Statistics show that of the 43 countries in sub-Saharan Africa that need ITNs, just 23 percent have one or more in the home. The study estimates that millions of ITNs are needed for the entire population. The estimate of ITNs needed to protect young children and pregnant women alone was about 203 million nets.
