- Abstract
This article presents news from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A study of malaria in Great Exuma, the Bahamas from May to June 2006 was conducted. Four cases are presented of tourists who came down with the disease in Great Exuma. The disease is not normally found in the islands, but the report says travel is changing the migration of diseases and recommends that health care providers in the Bahamas and other countries where the disease is not endemic should remain alert to the risk of the disease, especially in travelers and immigrants. The CDC also recommends that travelers to the island take preventative doses of chloroquine before, during and after visiting the island.
