- Abstract
The project was developed by the Aquaculture Research Group at Universidad de Nariño (GIAC) in the Ornamental Fish laboratory of the Aquaculture Production Engineering program with the purpose of evaluating the effects of immersion in 17α-methyl testosterone solutions at 0.5 mg/L-1 and 1 mg/L-1 with temperatures of 26°C and 31°C on Betta splendens sex distribution. An Unrestricted Random Sampling (URS) consisting of six treatments and three replicates was used as follows: 0.5 mg/L-1 and 26°C; T2: 0.5 mg/L-1 and 31°C; T3 1.0 mg.L-1 and 26°C; T4 1.0 mg/L-1 and 31°C; T5: 0.0 mg/L-1 and 26°C; T6: 0.0 mg/L-1 and 31°C. The percentage of males was statistically different from the normal distribution of sexes (1:1) with percentage values of 68.9%, 66.7%, 44.5%, 75.0%, 27.3% and 70.4% in the respective treatments. As a consequence, the best result in masculinization of the studied species was obtained with 1.0 mg/L-1(MT) at a 31°C estimated in sex proportion 3:1, existing a significant difference (p<0.001) when compared with other treatments.
