Decreased Effectiveness of Metronidazole for the Treatment of Clostridium difficile Infection?
- Authors
Kuijper, Ed J.; Wilcox, Mark H.
- Abstract
The authors comment on the study the examined the decreased effectiveness of metronidazole for the treatment of Clostridium difficile infection. They note that the reasons for starting treatment with vancomycin or metronidazole were not clear and the dosages and duration of treatments are not detailed. However, they assert that the study supports the need to assess the response of the patients and to switch treatment to vancomycin if symptoms worsen.
