- Abstract
The use of nursing theories and models in nursing practices enables them to be based on a conceptual basis, to be independent of nurses and to practice with their own perspective. Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory is a model commonly used in many patients. In this article, a nursing care process conducted according to Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory is presented for a patient who is receiving inpatient treatment with Obsessive-Compulsive disorder in a psychiatric clinic of a university hospital. On the basis of theory, a supportive educational nursing care process that provides self-care for the individual who provides support to other individuals to increase self-care competence and for the sustainability of care and handles the individual with his/her family, is presented. Patient's data were collected for four areas according to the theory: basic conditioning factors, universal, developmental and health deviation self-care requisites. Nursing care, according to the "nursing process system" has been carried out within the framework of evaluation of the data, nursing diagnosis, goals, interventions (nursing system and method of helping) and evaluation areas. The assessment was made at the end of the fifth day that the patient was discharged. The theory facilitated the nursing practice in the multidimensional assessment of the patient and the problems.
