- Abstract
The article describes the use of side scan sonar imaging for autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) navigation. Considered a leader in underwater vehicle operations and technologies, the Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) has been involved in the Responsive Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Localization and Mapping (REALM) project which is focused on expanding the capabilities of the MUN Explorer AUV platform. A description of side scan sonar systems is presented.
