- Abstract
Inclusion and exclusion are terms which have been applied liberally within the field of Health and Physical Education (HPE). People within the field use these terms regularly, for example: 'we need to be inclusive in our teaching,' 'we need to be socially inclusive', and 'we need to be more culturally inclusive'. But what does this mean for teachers in their pedagogical practice and for students in their learning and development? This paper examines experiences of situations in which HPE students have been included and excluded. Insight into students' recollections through the narratives enhances our understanding of how these concepts impact student learning and teaching practice. These narratives and the discussion thereof provide an important insight into the often unheard 'student' experience of HPE. The analysis of these narratives is meant as a catalyst for further discussion and to highlight potential for research into the student experience of HPE.
