- Abstract
The article discusses the use of single-shot devices in cardiac catheter ablation procedures, specifically for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). The visually guided laser balloon ablation system, known as the X3, has shown high success rates and durability in pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). However, there are limitations to the X3 system, such as longer procedure times and a relatively high pinhole rate. The article also introduces pulsed field ablation (PFA) as a non-thermal ablation modality with potential advantages in terms of safety and efficacy. The FARAPULSE system, utilizing PFA, has shown promising results in PVI procedures. The authors suggest that PFA may be the optimal energy source for single-shot devices, but further research is needed to draw final conclusions.
