- Abstract
The experiment aimed to compare the results of titer of Peking duck and white Tsaiya duck embryonic eggs after inoculated with egg drop syndrome (EDS) virus for references of the production of this vaccine. The experimental ducks were detected for EDS antigen at 30 weeks of age, and the results were all negative. At the age of 40 weeks, the egg weight, eggshell strength, and egg shape coefficient were tested, and inoculate the EDS virus into the allantoic cavity then extract the allantoic fluid for hemagglutination-inhibition test (HI) to detect the titers. The results showed that the egg weight, eggshell strength and egg shape coefficient of white Tsaiya duck and Pekin duck were 58.5 ± 3.2g vs. 70.0 ± 3.5g, 3.6 ± 0.7 kg/cm² vs. 4.0 ± 0.40 kg/cm² and 67.1 vs. 72.8, respectively. The titers of embryonic eggs of white Tsaiya duck and Peking duck were 14.06 ± 0.96 log2 and 11.43 ± 0.78 log2 (P < 0.05). The results showed these two breeds are both qualified for vaccine production (above 11 log² or more). The embryonic eggs from white Tsaiya duck with higher titer are properly used in the actual EDS vaccine production, the larger egg weight Peking duck is also an optional breed.
