- Abstract
The article compares the conditions of the patients institutionalized at state psychiatric facility Bryce State Hospital and Searcy, the state mental hospital for African Americans in Alabama, as indicated in the cases Wyatt v. Stickney and Marable v. Alabama Mental Health Board. Topics include the history of the Marable case, the reason why the Marable case vanished in mental health law and the use of due process arguments to ensure that institutionalized people were not ignored.
