- Abstract
The theme of this research is music education at teacher education studies and the purpose is to improve the teaching of music courses. According to the Bologna reform, a student is expected to gain competences, skills and attitudes enabling him to teach competently. In our case, the student is expected to acquire or develop the appropriate level of competence required for teaching musical culture. Music education at teacher education studies in Croatia and in the world is in most cases based on the logic leading from theory to practice. Such a model can be effective in the system of professional musical education, but not at teacher education studies since schools provide little time for music courses and because of the particularities of learning music. During the studies students should be trained to deal with music in practice. It is primarily about skill acquisition, so teaching music at teacher education studies should start with musical practice and move towards theory.
