- Abstract
Presents a case of pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKD) that required little blood transfusion support but accumulated significant tissue iron, causing multiple organ dysfunction. Need for continuous monitoring of iron status; Recognition of splenectomy as a risk factor for iron loading in untransfused hemolytic states.
