- Abstract
In the study, it was aimed to reveal the metaphors of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students regarding the concepts of the "Human Body Systems" unit in the science course. The phenomenology design was used in the study in order to reveal the metaphorical perceptions of the secondary school students about the concepts of the "Human Body Systems" unit in the science course. The study group consists of 450 students studying in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades and participating voluntarily. The metaphorical perceptions of the students regarding the "Human Body Systems" unit concepts were collected using the interview form developed within the scope of the study. The metaphors obtained in the study were analyzed through content analysis. After the evaluation of the metaphors related to the concept, a list of metaphors was made and the number (f) and percentage (%) of students representing each metaphor were calculated. In this study, which was carried out to reveal the metaphors of secondary school students about the concepts of the "Human Body Systems" unit, the students' development of 266 different metaphors for the concepts of brain, skeleton, joint, blood, vessel, lung shows the difference in their perspectives on these concepts. As a result, 6th graders produced fewer metaphors for concepts than 7th and 8th graders. 8th graders produced many metaphors. The metaphors created by the students are mostly similes in terms of shape and appearance.
