- Abstract
Endodontic therapy is a branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of the root canal, in order to maintain the tooth for as long as possible in the oral cavity, the life of the tooth depending largely on the correctness of this treatment. Canal treatment (endodontic treatment) - consists in removing the diseased dental pulp ("nerve") from the root canals, followed by mechanical and chemical cleaning, washing the canals with antiseptic solutions and then sealing (obturation) them with special materials for prevention and removal of infections. Canal treatment is a complex treatment, which can involve several stages, when the infection is advanced (without proper treatment there is an extension of the infectious process, which can lead to tooth loss). Due to the complexity of the endodontic system, quality endodontic treatment involves proper cleaning and sterilization of the endodontic space that can be obtained only by alternating and combining mechanical (mechanical instrumentation that removes the residues inside the pulp chamber and root canal) and chemical (irrigation with solutions dissolution / disinfection). Mechanical instrumentation of root canals can be performed manually or with the help of electrically operated instruments - rotating endodontic instruments. Since the 1990s, the electric micromotor came into use in endodontic treatment, and today this device is an indispensable part in achieving a high-performance, efficient and quality endodontic treatment. Rotary instruments (rotary needles) are used together with the endodontic micromotor. This fact allows the approach of extremely curved channels respecting their natural shape, while making the stage of mechanical processing much more efficient and shorter in time. Top endodontic motors have also integrated a detector, called the Apex Locator, which allows the dentist to locate the root tip and avoid punctures.
