- Abstract
The article examines the causes of sudden cardiac death of patients with chagas heart disease in South America. According to the author, malignant ventricular arrhythmias are the main cause of sudden cardiac death followed by bradyarrhythmias and cerebral emboli. The author conducted a research on 5 patients with positive blood tests for Chagas disease, documented sudden cardiac arrest, preserved left ventricular function New York Heart Association functional class I which found that occurrence of syncope is an indication of sudden cardiac death in patients with various forms of structural heart disease.
