Introducing bacteria and fungi into these systems is desirable because experiments without microbiota may lead to conclusions that are insecure, as exemplified by a recent I in vivo i study on I E. tenella i showing that, in the absence of intestinal microbiota, parasite replication is altered (Gaboriaud et al.).
