- Abstract
The article focuses on a national survey of secondary school principals on the attributes and competencies required from physical education teachers/coaches. It emphasizes the need of coaches to be effective on all aspects of coaching as they are expected to create and maintain long-term programs. Several attributes of a teacher/coach are examined which include knowledge of subject matter/sport and experience. Survey results show that principals favor physically fit educators as well as those who hold an aquatic certification.
