- Abstract
This paper deals with the question of how the fields of the Sociology and Anthropology of Music can be applied in the analysis of cultural transfer and its respective types of occurrences (linkage, reception and appropriation). It presents approaches which open up the study of cultural transfer as a sociological and anthropological practice, particularly in terms of the various aspects of the mediating agents involved in musical transfers. At the same time, this paper emphasizes the perspective of the receiving culture and argues for an analytical method which combines both culture- oriented theories of 'signifying practices' with sociological-practical theories of 'doing practices'.
