- Abstract
This article discusses the particular needs and challenges facing social casework services with families of alcoholics. Particular focus is given to three aspects of support and treatment for the alcoholic, including the need for a spouse to view the addiction as a curable disease, the benefit of not sheltering an alcoholic from the consequences of their actions, and the positive utilization of self-help groups.
