- Abstract
In 2007, standardization of environmental and human health requirements of chemical substances was put into action in the EU through the implementation of REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals). Organobromine compounds, which are used in brominated flame-retardants, have remained under scruting due to persistent environmental concerns. However there are few alternatives to this particularly effective flame-retardant. In 2012, Alexium announced the development of a unique non-halongenated flame-retardant coating for polyamide fabric, which it believes will provide fire-retardant properties without the associated public health and environmental controversies.
