- Abstract
Objective: To identify, in the scientific literature, the evidence available on the effects of acupuncture in reducing CINV in women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Method: Integrative Review (IR), where the guiding question was based on the PICO strategy. The following inclusion criteria were defined: Primary studies that address the topic of acupuncture in reducing CINV, in adult women (over 18 years old), with breast cancer, undergoing chemotherapy, published from January 2013 to December 2023 in Portuguese, English and Spanish, indexed in the following databases: BVS, PUBMED, EMBASE, SCOPUS, MEDLINE, BDTD. According to the Health Sciences Descriptors (DECS): Acupuncture; Breast neoplasms; Nausea; Vomiting; Antineoplastics. And the MESH: Acupuncture; Breast Neoplasms; Nausea; Vomiting; Drug Therapy. Results: acupuncture is reported by most articles (66.67%) as being satisfactory in reducing CINV, the most used type (33.34%) being acupressure and the most mentioned point (66.67%) is the PC6. Furthermore, most of the studies in the sample were quasi-experimental (50%) and randomized (33.34%), presenting evidence levels III and II respectively. Final considerations: The evidence points to a positive effect of acupuncture and the PC6 point in reducing CINV in women with breast cancer. These results were obtained from the analysis of studies with high and relevant levels of evidence, with great reliability for professionals.
