- Abstract
Chondromalacia patella is a cause of noninflammatory anterior knee pain affecting young population and especially females engaged in sports activities. Degradation of patellar cartilage occurs leading to pain and crepitation over patella. Fifteen years-old voleyball player female patient has been presented with bilateral knee pain occuring in every winter season for five years. She had joint hypermobility as well as knee pain. Blood tests were normal and magnetic resonance imaging of knees showed bilateral increase in signal intensity at the lateral facets of patella. Joint laxity was found to be related with the pathogenesis of this disorder, so avoiding hyperextension of the joints is useful for decreasing the pain. There are several treatment options that can be choosen according to the patient's age and condition as the disease has chronic continuity.
