- Abstract
The anisotropic diffusion filter is a noise filtering technique used in the preprocessing of digital images. This filter uses complex operators and has a high computational cost so that coprocessors can be used to speed up its execution. In this work, we present the integration of an anisotropic diffusion filter coprocessor implemented in a SoC FPGA. The implemented system includes an ARM processor responsible for the communication interface with a personal computer. A parallelism exploration was performed in the coprocessor implementation, as well a comparison with the performance of a software implementation running on an ARM processor and in the personal computer. Results demonstrate that the FDA coprocessor achieves the smaller processing time than other processors, even though the coprocessor operates at a much lower clock frequency.
